Private tour to Pisa from Florence – Half day trip
Pisa emerged as one of the four medieval maritime republics, but its fame is primarily linked to the Leaning Tower, the bell tower of the cathedral. However, the city offers a rich variety of experiences. In the heart of the historic center, numerous traces of its glorious past are revealed. Among the highlights are the picturesque streets along the river, vibrant with student life, the renowned Piazza dei Miracoli, the majestic tower, and even the birthplace of Galileo Galilei. Pisa invites careful and curious discovery of its wonders and traditions.
Piazza dei Miracoli
Guided tour of Piazza dei Miracoli, a UNESCO Heritage site, where the expert guide will provide you with details and anecdotes about the history and art of the four monuments that form the center of Pisa’s religious life: the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Camposanto, and the famous Leaning Tower. The first stop is the Cathedral, a masterpiece of Romanesque art dating back to the 11th century. Notable features include the majestic facade in white and gray marble, the bronze portal, the hexagonal pulpit, frescoes, and mosaics decorating the interior.
Baptistery
The tour continues to the Baptistery, built between the 12th and 14th centuries. This circular building has a conical dome that creates a surprising acoustic effect. Inside, there’s the octagonal baptismal font and the hexagonal pulpit by Nicola Pisano, one of the sculptor’s masterpieces.
The Leaning Tower
The third stop is the Leaning Tower, the symbol of Pisa and one of the world’s most famous attractions. In the 12th century, due to the subsidence of the underlying ground, the tower began to lean during its construction; today, it’s stabilized thanks to consolidation and restoration efforts. It’s worth climbing its 294 steps to enjoy a breathtaking view of the square and the city.
