A living work of art, one of the most enchanting villages in Italy, attracts travelers from every corner of the world with its eternal beauty and the magical atmosphere that pervades its winding streets. Perched like an eagle’s nest on a hill, this city is an eloquent testament to the challenges of soil erosion, earning the affectionate nickname of the “Dying City”.
To reach it, one must cross a 200-meter-long bridge. Due to precarious structural conditions that have emptied the village, Civita di Bagnoregio has only 11 inhabitants. A story of rebirth is underway as tourists contribute to breathe new life into this architectural gem. However, the fragility of its structures requires controlled access to avoid damaging the delicate balance of the ancient buildings.
The dying city is located in the center of the Valley of Calanchi, which was once the access route leading from the Tiber Valley to Lake Bolsena.
Access to the bridge may be restricted due to weather conditions.
After experiencing the atmosphere of Civita di Bagnoregio, our journey continues to another wonder, the city of Orvieto, perched on walls of tuff sculpted by time. An ancient Etruscan center from the 7th to the 3rd century BC, the city today presents itself as a charming medieval treasure. The secrets of the ancient Etruscan civilization are hidden in the underground depths of the city. For this reason, once you arrive at the restaurant, where you will have lunch savoring excellent traditional dishes, you will have the opportunity to visit the underground areas, where Etruscan cisterns and wells, located 18 meters below street level, are visible.
Orvieto will enchant you with its medieval alleys in the historic center or with the renowned Piazza Duomo with the majestic Orvieto Cathedral, an authentic masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture dating back to the 13th century.
Concluding this extraordinary experience, our bus will take you back to Rome, leaving you with indelible memories of two Italian gems that speak of history and beauty.
